Most, where the young people go in Budapest

We had another yearly family event in Budapest. Friday night is always time for big dinner gathering. We usually went Sir Lancelot but this year, Godilla decided to try out new placce.

"Most", a hidden restaurant behind the Opera House.

Once you open it's red door of the entrance, you are in the different world.

First of all, I was surprised by it's library looked picture of book shelves. Check out how artistic the interior is.

The menu was also interesting. Their variation are from traditional hungarian cuisine to casual American snacks. Gulaysh, the Hungarian speciality was amazing. Well stewed beef melt in your month.

Ginger sauced teriyaki chicken with jasmine rice.

In terms of the taste, these main courses were not outstanding. I mean, it's perfect for thos who have bug appetite. I had soup as an appetizer and chicken as a main course but Gulaysh soup can be ordered as a main course. However, although I was completely full, dessert was exception. This dish is also something special from the restaurant. Vanilla ice cream melts on the warm chocolat dough. I couldn't say "no" for this:)

The restaurant has become completely full.

Although the bar was empty where I came in, it was covered by so many people by the time I leave. Many local people also pop into the restaurant for drink and snacks. It's cost performance is also the reason of being loved by many locals. It reminds me of Japanese "Izakaya" where you can enjoy drinks and casual foods. Everybody love Izakaya and have lots of fun there. If you want to meet with local people, this is the place to go to.

Well, the huge problem I had with this restaurant is it's smokes. Since there are no windows in room, you cannot avoid getting stinky by smokes.

You will definetely need good shampoo after leaving the restaurant.

Restaurant Kindli in Zurich

I was very much impressed this time. It was a family's Christmas dinner in Zurich and restaurant has been chosen from my husband. Since he doesn't have so much knowledge of restaurants, I was quite surprise how he manged to find such a good restaurant for Christmas Eve.

The restaurant is locating in the heart of Zurich.

It was the place I have long wanted to try to out.

Although there was no Christmas Tree inside, the restaurant had holiday's atmosphere. The table has been nicely decorated.

Classic interior, yet quite cozy.

The selection of menu was not so huge. We've decided to choose special Christmans menu.

Here comes appetizer. An assortment of salmon. A slice, tartar and rolled cheese salmon. They were delicious.

The variety of food was not huge but the wine list was good. We started from Champaigne and then took white wine from California.

The main was beef steak with truffle sauce and mushed potato. Slices of truffle were covering the meat and made it even more aromatic. We chose red wine from Argentine.

Sadly, I'm not a big fan of meat. I could have ask to subsutitute beef to chicken or something. But all my family were enjoying it a lot so obviously it was a good one. My father-in-law was even ordering extra meat:)

After a main dish, we ordered a bottle of dessert wine. The cheese plate included in the course menu has followed.

and was finished with dessert. A chocolate plum cake decorated with plum sauce.

Service was also good, very friendly and attentitive. The waiter patient enough to take a picture of our family with 3 or 4 camearas..:)

It has became an another great Christmas memory with family. Thanks to my husband who has organized it.

Le Soufflé in Paris

I visited Paris first time after 10 years. I have so many beautiful memory from my last visit but one thing I strongly remember is this restaurant.

Restaurant Le Souffle.

My father took me here 10 years ago.

It's not a fancy Michelin's restaurant, a very local, classic one locating on a small street. But was full with local people, we couldn't manage to get in if we didn't make reservation.

Specialty here is of course Souffle. If you want, you can have "Only-Souffle-Menu", from appetizer to dessert.
This is my appetizer, "foie gras souffle".

 Oh yes, this is the one I ate with family 10 years ago. Souffle is very delicate and airy, it melts in your month. I love Souffle but there are not so many restaurants where offer this special french dish.

My husband ordered grilled scallop as an appetizer. You can of course get something delicious besides souffle in this restaurant.  Garlic flavored scallop was very tasty.

I ordered roasted duck as a main dish. Slices of duck are served with sliced oranges. They actually match very well.

Beef stroganoff was the main dish of my husband. In this time of the year, wild foods such as rabbits and dears are also good in France.

 Both of us have chosen souffle as dessert.

This one is pure chocolate souffle.

Mine is Pistachio Souffle. The waiter made a hole in the middle and poured chocolate sauce inside.

Souffle are quite sweet so you will need Espresso together.

There were lots of classic picture of foods hanging on the wall and I liked this one the most:)

I think I am now more experienced with restaurants than 10 years ago. I was not so impressed by the dishes except souffle. (souffle were really good!) But what surprising is that the restaurant has nothing changed for 10 years and still very popular among local people. I see that this restaurant is quite old and has history. The restaurant has been loved by Parisian and will be continue loved in future.

Even Camels were acting. All the lights in the restaurant went off and the show in the desert has started. It was like a movie "Lawrence of Arabia".

This local man in our neighbor was really enjoying a show. He owns horses in the show and knows everybody working in the restaurant. He enjoyed chatting with Odie.

Odie was enjoying strawberry flavored Shisha. We were very full and satisfied.

The restaurant belongs to Hotel Jumeirah Bab Al Shams. We were staying there. There is a bus running between the restaurant and hotel but we decided to walk back. The trail was well organized so that guests can have a nice walk in a desert. Short walk under star sky was beautiful.

There are lots of restaurant guests who are visiting from Dubai City but in order to enjoy it's atmosphere 100%, I recommend to stay in this hotel. See my hotel blog.

As a souvenior, we have our photo which costed some money;) Arabian are good in business.
But so what, you never get such an experience so often in you life.

Restaurant Riva

It supposed to be a nice terrace dining which overview Lake Zurich. It was my birthday dinner.

Unfortunately, the weather turned out to be rain so we dined inside. Which is also not bad. Cool, stylish interior which makes me feel comfortable.

This restaurant Riva is specialized in Seafood. I was really looking forward to coming here since there are not so many seafood oriented restaurant in Zurich.

In that case, both of us have to start from Seafood appetizer.

My choice was "Tuna Sashimi salad with Matsushita dressing". I don't know why the name of the sauce says "Matsushita" which is Japanese. But sauce contains soya which I believe the best sauce in the world for Sashimi.

Sashimi was served together with raddish. It's true, in Japan sashimi are served together with thin delicate sliced white raddish. Althouth these raddish on my plate was quite thick, I can take it as a salad, which is also good.

What my husband has ordered as an appetizer was also a great choice.  Seafood salad.

This quality of seafood you can hardly get in Zurich. Shrimp and squids were fresh and tender.

Decoration is also beautiful. We enjoyed some Italian white wine which has been recommended.

As a main dish, I knew I will take seafood again out from the grill. It was difficult to choose. Tuna would have been also good but I already had it as an appetizer. Salmon and Lobsters were also tempting but this time, I've chose "Scampo" which has been also recommended by waiter.

As a side dish, you can chose from bread salad, roasted potatoes, sateed spinach and black rice. My choice was black rice and this is a specialty of the house as well. This wild black rice is served in cube. Since I'm an Oats lover, I really liked this healthy side dish.

Not to mention, this scampo from south africa was also tasty.

If you don't care seafood so much, you can also enjoy juicy meats from a grill. My husband ordered pork chop with roasted potatoes as side dish.

I think food were all great but since we started arguing from the poing when the main course came, I couldn't forcus on the taste so much. As a dessert, there was a selection of Crema Catalana, Tiramisu and so on but I was no longer in the mood of sweets. My husband had an ice cream though.

If you are in a good mood and can have nice conversation, this is the place for a romantic dinner. This I can guearantee.

Waldgarten Zurich

Dining and wining experience in our neighbor! We never know there is such a great restaurant nearby.

"Waldgarten" = "Garden in a forest". We were excited for tasty wining experience.

Upon we entered the restaurant, a boxes of wine we have ordered were ready. My husband grab them up and loaded in the car. Hmmmm, we can continue enjoying good wine at home as well!

But first of all, let's start from enjoying variety of wine offers in the restaurant!

You can choose either "4 course menu" or "2 course". Of course, we went for 4 course menu!!

The restaurant can accommodate only 20 to 25 people. It was already full in Thursday evening.

We started from chilly delicous white wine..! Ohhh that was amazing after a long day..

My appetized was seasonal salad with light but sine sauce.

My husband has chosen potato soup with green onion.

My second dish. It was really great. Simple totaoe sauce pasta was soooo delicious. Thin twisted pasta are covered gently by fresh tomato sauce. So simple, light and goooood!!

My husband had Carpaccio.

Of course, we changed to red wine.. Dry, spanish wine...hmmmmmmmmmm.

Here is my main dish! Roasted perfectly medium and yet juicy. Salted right amount and sauce made from wine was great. I was full but couldn't stop eating:)

Beaf cutlet is for my husband. He also loved it.

Good food and good wine.. whatelse do you need more?

Oh yes, we do need somethig!

A sweet temptation...

Both house-made dessert. Caramel pudding and meringue and icecreams covered by whipped cream. ( you cannot see which one is meringue and which one is cream:)

The personal service was also very comfortable. One lady who we assume a wife of owner is serving whole guests. Yet she doesn't look hectic but pay attention to every guests.

Pizzeria Don Leone

On Friday night, my husband and I went out for a Pizzeria in the city.

Pizzeria Don Leone. A good friend of mine in here Zurich recommended me that the restaurant doesn't look fancy but offer good foods.

As we went in, I thought we stepped into different country. It was exactly like Italy!! The restaurant was packed and people are squeezed in one long table like in cafeteria. Although I made reservation, we had to wait for a while. A boss here is real Italian man, he said "oh, just a small moment, I will make your table ready!" bus he is being busy to serve food and wine to other guests. Well, the atmosphere is completely relaxed Italian style so no use to make fuss here.. I waited.

and finally we got a table. I place to two at the table between other guests. Our neighbor are group of Italian and a German couple who also speak very good Italian. It IS really Italy here!

So I had to test this restaurant if it's really like in Italy or not. I ordered Fungi Porcini as an appetizer.. Oh my god!! This is really a fresh porcini!! Soooooooo delicious! Underneath porcini is a poached egg match perfectly together with Porcini and Rucola. A flovor of tarfuto even envourage my appetite.

My husband ordered an assortment of eggplant and artichoke.

So funny that a bottle of Extra Virgin Olive oil stand on the table just like this. People at the table pass around and share this olive oil. Like soya sauce in Japanese restaurant?:)

Here comes hugeeeee Pizza!! Palma ham and Rucola. The dough is also tasty. Thin, real Italian Pizza.

I ordered pasta as a main course. As a porcini lover, I had to order a pasta topped with Porcini and grilled shrimp.

You cannot always get good seafood in Zurich but this shrimp was huge and tasty. Creamy but light sauce cover this twisted pasta. It was big portion but I couldn't stop eating.

The boss both who keep speaking Italin works well. He goes around hall and sometime speak loud to the kitchen. But this passionate atmosphere was somehow comfortable as well. Moreover, this quality for this price is very unusual in Zurich. Pizza can be for 3 people but price is normal and it's taste good!!

In Zurich, you really need to go where to go to and this local Italian restaurant is one of them.

Da Angela Zurich

I found a really good Itaian restaurant in Zurich!

It is locating at residential area where you never go unless you live in the area..

or to have an unforgetable dining experience at "Da Angela".

Upon to enter the restaurant, you will be escorted by friendly Italian waiter.
The restaurant is decorated classic but simple. It was already full by 8pm.

Bruschetta was served as a starter.

While we were checking the menu, a waiter came to our table to show us "today's recommendation" which was a genly roasted chops of beaf. My husband instantly decided what to oder:)

My appetizer.

Fresh octopus salad. This was not on the menu. Another "today's recommendation". Octopus was soft and fresh!

My main course. "House made spagetthi with spicy tomato sauce with fresh schrimps". This was amazing. Not only shrimps but pasta itself was sooo fresh and tender. It was also nice that I was able to choose "half portion" so that I can save space for dessert.

This was my husband's choice. Huge beef steak with sateed beans. Very soft and juicy. Roasted potate with rosemary was also served as a sidedish. Stimulating flavor of rosemary increased your appetite.

and here comes another house speciality, "Tiramisu". Ohhhh this was like a dream. I had to decide either Panna Cotta or Tiramisu but I followed the advice of friendly waitress. It WAS very delicious.

My husband has chose "grapefruits Sorbe with Vodka". Refreshing choice but not recommendable to those non-alcohol drinker. Ice cream is soaking in Vodka.

Overall, it was such a satisfactory dining experience. Lady who seems to be responsible for the restaurant is constantly checking the whole hall if the geusts are satisfying. She visits every table if everything is fine. I could also see that waiter and waitresses are enjoying their work. How they communicate each others was also comfortable to observe.
It must be also great for summer lunch at teracce.

If you want to have really good Italian food in Zurich, consider "da Abgela".

Cafe Gerbeaud

Cafe culture in Budapest is old. It has developed since the economy of Hungary has progressed in 19th centuty. Since 1868, during the time of Austriah-Hungarian Monarchie, the number of cafe in Budapest has rapidly increased.　Many writers visited cafe and enjoyed coffee and conversation.

One of the most traditional Cafe in Budapest "Gerbeaud since 1858" .

Beautiful Lococo style ceiling. Queen Erzsebet was also a big fan of this cafe.

Since I was totally hungury, I ordered sadwitch first. Vegetable panini.

My husband ordered crab sandwitch.

What I cannot miss is of course sweets!

Cakes with layers seems to be a popular one.

It was too difficult to chose from varieties of cakes in the show case.

and what I cannot forget it coffee. Look at this beautiful layer of Late Machiato!
During the time of socialism, many cafe have to close. But Gerbeaud is one of those cafe which survived until now... A very precious culture of Hungary.

Schiller Highly recommended restaurant in Zürich

Schiller, newly opened restaurant in center of Zürich. We tried it's cafe, Goethe Bar once and wanted to try the restaurant as well. Although most of the restaurants in Zürich closed on Dec 24, Schiller was opening it's door.

Interior is designed quite stylish.

We started from cocktail and went through the menu. Hmmm very difficult to chose. They have wide selection. Our friendly waiter offered us a course menu, which can be flexible as we wish. So we all ordered course menu and I asked to change beef to lamb.

Here comes beautiful appetizer. Salmon tartar with marinated avocado and cavier on the top. Together with Wasabi quark and gently sliced raw ham lied as bed.

Main menu was also fantastic. I substitute beef to lamb. Soft, juich lamb chop with sateed spinach and truffel flavored mushed potato. Baked tomatoes were also good. Beef served to my family was also nice and tender. Everybody loved it.

What I have to point out is also it's attentitive service. My husband picked up my lamb chop and started chewing the bone. Then our waited brought him a finger bowl, without being asked. I was sooooo impressed. He was always being attentitive and offered us such a comfortable service.

Dessert was also amazing. "Sabayone", a creamy vanilla sauce with drop of rum. Poured on vanilla ice cream and gently melter. This was absolutely delicious.

Upon we leave, our waiter and reeptionist were ready to see us off. They waited for us at the entrnce with our coat ready. Moreover, we were given Christmas gift, which was "free coffee coupon" in cafe!!

I was more than satisfied with this dining experience in Schiller!
